Washington Man Charged for Slew of Hunting Violations in Neighboring Montana

A Washington state man is up against a slew of potential charges after a multi-agency investigation revealed he’d been taking animals illegally, possibly for many years now. 

Working in tandem with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Police were tipped off about possible cross-border transport of animal parts. Following the tip, WDFW Officer McOmber obtained and executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence revealing a number of animals they believed not only to have been unlawfully transported into Washington, but illegally killed in neighboring Montana.

At the time the search warrant was executed, Washington officers seized a variety of items including animal skulls, antlers, a shoulder mount, firearms they believed to have been used to kill the animals and his cellphone.

Following the seizure, Washington officials returned to perform a formal interview of the suspect where they were able to obtain a full confession for a number of suspected offenses. 

In total, the accused was found to be in violation of a number of Montana wildlife laws including the unlawful wastage of big game animals such as mule deer, the wastage of game birds like sharp-tailed grouse, hunting over legal limits, trespassing while hunting, and failure to properly tag harvested animals.

As of right now, the unnamed suspect’s charges will be referred to the Washington state prosecutor’s office for a misdemeanor charge of unlawful possession of wildlife taken in violation of another state’s laws. As for his future in Montana, state officials are still parsing through the evidence received from their partners in Washington where you can bet this fellow will be facing a whole lot more pain in the future.

Montana authorities have stated that they are continuing to build their case against the accused in the ongoing investigation.
