OHIO MAN SENTENCED FOR SHOOTING AT GAME WARDENS WHILE COYOTE HUNTING

A former Ohio resident who was accused of opening fire on a game warden in Pennsylvania has finally had his day in court. Pleading guilty to multiple crimes, 44-year-old Roman Kartsev was first charged last fall after an incident in Pike County, Pennsylvania.

Towards the end of November of last year, Game Warden Patrick Sowers and Deputy Ron Tussel were doing routine stops on the first day of deer rifle season when suddenly, bullets started flying past their heads. Sowers wrote the hunter and two officers “hit the ground taking cover behind the patrol vehicle while I watched low hanging branches falling around us after getting hit by gun fire with the loud snapping sound of bullets flying by at an extremely close distance around us to include the occasional ricochet off the ground consistent with the ‘fizzle’ sound bullets make when they tumble through the air.”

Mountain lion euthanized after attacking 5-year-old boy at Malibu Creek State Park. A 5-year-old boy is recovering after a harrowing event during a Labor Day weekend celebration in Southern California on Sunday. According to reports from California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife, the boy’s family was enjoying a long weekend picnic in Malibu Creek State Park, about 30 miles outside of Los Angeles, when a large mountain lion appeared and snatched the child by the head.

"The children were playing in the immediate vicinity of the family's picnic table when the mountain lion attacked the boy," fish and wildlife officials said. "One or more adults charged at the lion, and it released the boy."

The cat made its way up a nearby tree after releasing its victim and stayed there until authorities arrived. After deeming the cougar a threat to public safety, the animal was dispatched and later confirmed via DNA analysis to be the culprit in the attack.

National Hunting and Fishing Day officially comes to the state of Georgia. Governor Brian Kemp signed a proclamation that would inaugurate September 28th, 2024 as Georgia’s first official National Hunting and Fishing day. Following this year’s event, the outdoors-focused event will continue to happen each and every year on the fourth Saturday of September.

This year, the state will hold a number of free events across Georgia that will be focused on including family events and outdoor adventure days. It will also serve as a free fishing day statewide, where fishing licenses will not be required to get your line wet.

“This day provides an opportunity to highlight some great outdoor activities and to increase public awareness of the connection between hunting, angling, and conservation,” said Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division Director Ted Will.

IDAHO BOWHUNTERS KILL GRIZZLY IN SELF DEFENSE WHILE HUNTING ELK NEAR YELLOWSTONE

A pair of Idaho bowhunters got a bit more than they bargained for last weekend while chasing elk in the middle of grizzly country.  The attack took place near Henrys Lake in Island Park, just to the west of Yellowstone National Park, after the men unknowingly jumped a grizzly bear at around 7AM.

The bear sprung into action almost immediately, by knocking one of the hunters to the ground and biting him. Both of the hunters went on the defense and promptly reached for their sidearms. After a few shots, the pair had successfully dispatched their attacker and were able to assess the injuries sustained during the encounter.

The pair of bowhunters wasted no time calling 911 and getting emergency services to their location. The injured hunter was airlifted via helicopter to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, where he was soon treated for his non-life-threatening injuries.

While grizzly bears are a protected species, Idaho officials conducted an investigation into the incident and soon declared it a self defense situation. Determining that the two men had shot the bear in defense-of-life, there would be no further penalties or charges for their actions…
