Fourteen poachers indicted in massive Arizona poaching case 🧑‍⚖️

+ Utah board approves waterfowl and bear changes, Oklahoma bag limits might be going down, Louisiana bear hunters honored.

Greetings from another Monday in the wonderful month of January. In trusting that the weekend wasn’t quite long enough, here’s to hoping that your favorite dispatch from the outdoor world can give you 5-or-so minutes to yourself as we prepare for the onslaught of another week.

FOURTEEN ARIZONA POACHERS INDICTED ON DOZENS OF WILDLIFE CHARGES

During the middle of December, the Arizona Grand Jury indicted 14 individuals on dozens of counts of poaching wildlife. According to the indictment, the crimes included one count each of conspiracy, illegally conducting an enterprise, and cruelty to animals, along with 26 counts of wildlife theft.

According to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, the 14 suspects allegedly poached a plethora of game animals including four bighorn sheep, four elk, five mule deer, 13 whitetail deer, four javelinas, two turkeys and three pronghorn antelope. The charges handed down to them all relate to crimes that allegedly took place between April 2018 and October of 2021…

Despite snow, numbers were high in Ohio’s 4-day muzzleloader deer hunting season:  Whatever the effects of a powerful slap from winter, the 2025 muzzleloader hunt claimed 13,476 deer, surpassing last year’s count of 12,714 by 762 for an increase of about 6%. This year’s total also bested the three-year average of 13,081. Read the full story.

Being that I was born in the 80s, ahead of cellphones, you’d think I wouldn’t have telephobia - the fear of talking on the phone - but trust me, I do. Denim is said to be the fabric that built America - here’s a brief history, including how it was originally designed to clothe miners during the Gold Rush. And the Goodyear Blimp turns 100 this year, how’s that for another American icon?
